Cutter Board Care
The wood in these cutter boards is select grade, kiln dried hardwood. All cutter boards have been finished with a mixture of mineral oil and beeswax.
Before first use, apply a coat of Alan's Special Wax (or mineral oil) and buff to a smooth finish.
The natural beauty of these cutter boards can be maintained easily by a periodic mineral oil treatment. You can buy mineral oil at any pharmacy. Wipe the oil on and let it soak for half an hour. Wipe off excess mineral oil with a paper towel or cotton cloth. Commercial waxes, vegetable, olive, and animal oils should never be used to treat wood cutter boards as these substances can turn rancid and impart a taste to anything that touches them.
Never soak the cutter boards in any cleaning solution or put in dishwasher. I make my wax with the following ingrediants:1. 1 slab of paraffin (from grocery store)
2. 4 1 oz cubes of bees wax
3. 8 oz mineral oil (from drug store)
4. Melt all three in a plastic food storage box in a pan of hot water. Mix well and let cool. This wax has more body and will last longer than mineral oil.
